Do You Want To Join Up?

If you've come to enlist then you're in the right place! Eta Cassiopeia is home to the Federal Navy H.Q. and there are no better facilities in the entire Federation for training new recruits. We encourage all potential recruits to have a good hard think about why they want to join the Federal navy before proceeding any further because military life is tough and not for the faint hearted. Don't think that because you wear a Federal uniform it will be your ticket to an easy life delivering orders or requisition forms to Core systems. If this is your kind of attitude you'd better turn around now and walk back through that door! We have no time for freeloaders or wasters that will never make the grade because we do not believe in people who do their second best... we believe in people who excel and can carry out orders to the letter!

After you have weighed up the possibilities, and thought about the different situations you may be faced with as a Federal officer, and still think you have what it takes to become a successful, and maybe famous, military figure then all you need to do is start taking on missions from the bulletin boards. The military mission bulletins can be found at every starport in the Federation. As missions become available they will be displayed on the bulletin boards for you to view in detail. After your first mission, if you have completed it successfully, you will be given the Federal Navy rank of Private. Remember - NEVER take on a mission you know you cannot complete! "Better late than never" is not a phrase we subscribe to, or use, in the Federal Navy. Lateness is FAILURE and that will not go down well at all with your superiors!

The missions will start off very simple. You might be required to deliver small items, orders or documents to other Navy bases or similar. If and when you are successful in completing these missions, to a degree, you will be offered more important tasks. These range from covert operations to handling top secret documents and information. The more successful you are at completing missions the more important the status of the missions will get. Your military rank will also be affected, depending on how well you perform. Promotions usually are given for outstanding acts of service in carrying out your orders but the time honored system of progression is still employed by us, so you do not have to be born with hero blood in your veins to become a high ranking Federal Navy officer. As you gain promotion to the higher ranks of the Navy your missions will become more and more difficult. This is when most (but not all) Commanders have gained enough fame, wealth and experience to satisfy their ego's and retire to a desk job or early retirement.

Not many high ranking Federal officers, these days, can climb into a cockpit and do a reconnaissance mission in a three week turn around. This is why we need a perpetual flow of new recruits to fill the gaps that promotion has made in our ranks. We need people who are dedicated to their beliefs, strong in the knowledge that the Federation is the true way of life and that our freedom will never be taken away from us by the Thargoids, the Empire, or anyone else!

Meet two of our more recognisable officers below and take note of what they say. It may be a deciding factor in your decision to enlist in the Federal navy. If you require more information about different ranks and medals, please see the bottom section of this page.

Sergeant-Major
Thompson

ATTENTION! STAND STILL WHEN I TALK TO YOU SOLDIER AND NEVER... LOOK ME IN THE EYE AGAIN! IS THAT CLEAR? NOW, PIN YOUR EARS BACK AND LISTEN!

My name is Sergeant-Major Thompson, as you will know, and I am the initial recruit training officer for the Federal Navy, here in Eta Cassiopeia. It is my job to sort the wheat from the chaff and instruct you in your first few days of naval training. Should I see you slacking or not pulling your weight I will boot your ass, and you will say "Thank you, sir!" afterwards. IS THAT CLEAR?

I don't train worms to become real men! I train real men to become outstanding Federal Navy officers! What are you, meatball, a real man or an Imp?

Corporal Fisher

So, you want to join the Federal Navy, huh? Well I got to admit, they haven't done me no wrong since I enlisted three years ago. I love the Fed Navy, it's my life and my home and I ain't never going to leave. All my friends are here and they are the kind of people you's can count on, for sure. And if ever I get into a scrape I have the best ship and firepower to depend on, backed up by my friends. If you join us you'll be doing yourself a favour, as well as the Federation! The pay is excellent and the living conditions are basically what you make them. Plus the Navy gives you quite a bit of free time to go about your personal business. I personally like greyhound racing. Have you ever been dog racing yourself?

Anyway, nice to meet you. I hope next time you'll be wearing a Federal uniform!
